“Actions in landscape at this time evolved as a physical seeing— from within the body. For these actions-for-camera, there is no posing, nor are there many takes or shots. I might ask the cameraperson (usually a friend) to get the entire body; don’t crop the legs; shoot from slightly above; shoot from slightly below. I need to risk an uncertainty in which aspects of the landscape and the body are in unpredictable configurations. As a painter, I grasp aspects of light, shadow, dimensionality—experiencing this aspect of self as both image and image-maker. So in a way, though I prevision the image, its actualization is always startling.”
